Grammy-nominated producer and technologist BT is no stranger to innovation. Since the beginning of his career he has been known as one of the pioneers of the IDM genre and credited as the inventor of Stutter Edit. The influential technique was later developed as a plug-in and used by countless electronic music artists.
After 25 years of producing and collaborating with artists such as Madonna, Sting, Tiesto, and David Bowie, BT has a particular excitement with what blockchain technology could mean for the industry. He recently shared a positive outlook ahead of is second blockchain-focused launch:
“I believe blockchain technologies will liberate the arts and free artists of all stripes to be able to release meaningful media at will and be celebrated and remunerated fairly. It’s a miracle that in our lifetime it’s possible to combine creative coding, digital treasure hunting, cryptography, art, and music into a single unified project. I’m humbled to be alive and to create to witness this.”
In May, he released Genesis.Json, a programmatic piece of music which sold for 88.8 ETH on the Superrare NFT store. ‘Metaversal,’ the groundbreaking follow up to the Genesis.Json, is being released today in collaboration with Origin Protocol, the innovative platform that hosted the first-ever NFT album earlier this year for a $11.7 million sale. Earlier today BT spoke to CoinDesk TV about this groundbreaking release (watch the show here).
Similar to Genesis.Json, ‘Metaversal’ consists of over 200,000 lines of code that construct a one-of-one NFT. However, as BT’s 14th studio album, the new release takes things further as an audio-visual playback engine that adjusts to the time of day and integrates audio-reactive art designed to create an interactive treasure hunt. Fans will work to solve cryptographic riddles where they’ll have the chance to win 33 unique NFTs.
For investors and collectors, the release will also offer 11 handmade 3D-printed sculptures derived from each song’s audio waveforms. Each will contain an NFC tag connecting it to its blockchain registry. These will be available as a tiered auction on Origin’s NFT Launchpad along with dual vinyl box sets.
