- John McAfee says he has lost everything.
- He is still awaiting the final verdict from the Spanish courts.
- The US government is working to bring him back to the USA.
John McAfee is spending his days behind bars lamenting over his lost fortune and reflecting on the sorrows of life in prison. The software antivirus visionary is awaiting his verdict from the Spanish courts.
McAfee however, has been in Spain’s prison since October 2020. The reason behind his arrest is a series of charges. In particular, one of the charges is failing to report $23.1 million made during a series of Initial Coin Offerings (ICOs).
Moreover, another charge is taken from failing to file tax returns for selling the right to his life story for a documentary. All in all, he is allegedly held for multiple money laundering scams, crypto pump-and-dump scams, other fraudulent schemes.
So, if the ruling finds him guilty, McAfee will face charges for tax evasion between 2014 to 2018. Hence, if this ruling passes, the ex-millionaire may find himself in prison for the rest of his days. Presently, the US government is working to extradite him.
During his time behind Spanish bars, McAfee seems to have taken a more pensive and sorrowful look at life. He spends his time sharing his thoughts through tweets. He speaks of the US pinning for his ‘hidden’ fortune. Although, he is adamant that he has no fortune left. He says he has lost it all along with his friends and career.
The US believes I have hidden crypto. I wish I did but it has dissolved through the many hands of Team McAfee (your belief is not required), and my remaining assets are all seized. My friends evaporated through fear of association.
I have nothing.
Yet, I regret nothing.

It is clear that while he does lament his loss, he regrets nothing.
Besides the few tweets about his situation with the authorities, his other tweets seem to be more serene. He tweets a lot about his simple content life with food and a bed. However, he is constantly sprinkling in tweets on his ‘down days’ too. Lastly, the pattern in his tweets also portrays his time in reflecting on his life so far. McAfee claims he has found peace. For instance, in a tweet made on May 23, he says “I once had everything…now I have nothing…But inside these prison bars I have never felt more free.”
