- McLaren Racing and Tezon blockchain has struck a partnership.
- Together they will bring an NFT platform that truly explores the ‘fan experience’.
- Tezos was chosen for its energy-efficient Proof-of-Stake consensus protocol.
McLaren Racing is teaming up with Tezos to create a new multi-year technical partnership across Formula 1, INDYCAR, and esports. Therefore, Tezos has now become McLaren Racing’s Official Blockchain Partner.
The Racing brand specifically chose Tezos to represent their NFT blockchain debut due to its energy-efficient network and upgradeable technology. In particular, the two intend to create a non-fungible tokens (NFT) platform while keeping the ‘fan experience’ at its heart’s core.
Tezos, the open-source blockchain for assets and applications, also offers upgrades decided by efficient on-chain governance. Most importantly, however, is the fact that Tezos uses the Proof-of-Stake (PoS) consensus protocol instead of the traditional Proof-of-Work (PoW). This consensus, in turn, guarantees a much smaller carbon footprint. Specifically, it uses 2 million times less energy than PoW blockchains.
Moreover, it is this factor that plays the deciding role for McLaren to choose Tezos over other blockchains. McLaren is aiming to build a dedicated platform that brings illustrious racing heritage and renowned driver line-ups across its multiple teams to finally offer an unparalleled NFT fan experience.
Above all, both partners value sustainability through innovation. They believe that embracing clean NFTs and energy-efficient networks will ensure that the impact made from this new medium of sharing creative expression will not be offset by ridiculously high energy consumption.
Director of Licensing, e-commerce & esports at McLaren Racing, Lindsey Eckhouse, says
Tezos and McLaren Racing uniting to create a unique fan-focused NFT platform is an innovative step in an exciting and rapidly developing industry. At McLaren, we are known for putting fans at the heart of everything we do, and this is another partnership which allows us to enter a space where fans can own key pieces of our team. We are looking forward to launching the platform with Tezos to create bespoke NFTs with our Formula 1, INDYCAR, and esports teams.
Meanwhile, Tezos Foundation Chair, Hubertus Thonhauser, adds his enthusiasm for the partnership as well. He says that McLaren Racing is one of the longest and most illustrious legacies in Formula 1 racing. Thus, Tezos is excited to work with them. More so, he speaks of how the concept of blockchain is constantly evolving. Hence, all blockchains must evolve to keep up with this rapid pace of innovation.
Ultimately, the partnership confirms that Tezos will represent McLaren Formula 1 and Arrow McLaren SP teams. Likewise, McLaren will represent Tezos in all its race suits. Especially, these suits will include McLaren F1 drivers — Lando Norris and Daniel Riccardo. Also joining the two are AMSP drivers — Pato O’Ward and Felix Rosenqvist.
