Polkadot Announces Rococo-V1 Parachains Testnet Launch

Polkadot Announces Rococo-V1 Parachains Testnet Launch
  • Rococo-V1 Parachains Testnet opens for business.
  • Parachains registration opens after Jan 4th, 2021.
  • Users can use parachains to send messages through the relay chain.

Polkadot announced the launch of the new Rococo-V1 Parachains Testnet Today. This new public testnet aims to test the parachains consensus process. It will also test the parachains built by the users and their interactions with each other.

Parity Technologies and the Polkadot developer community ensures steady maintenance of Rococo-V1. The new launch is based on the Rococo V0, launched earlier this year.

Simply put, this is the latest version of the parachains consensus. The V1 model is Polkadot’s production-ready code. Unlike the V0, it can run parachains while also including a more advanced software design.

This new V1 codebase will run on Polkadot and Kusama. With the V1 model, coders can achieve more as explained in the tweet below.

One of the main goals of this is to also gather feedback from those who use their platform. This will be a testing ground that leads to further developments.

Parachain registration will open up to the public after Jan 4th. Until then, the Polkadot team is preparing for a grand start to the new year.

Parachain slots will be ready for users on a first-come, first-serve basis. Rococo-V1 will receive timely restarts when gaps emerge, much like the V0.

Each new user looking to register to Rococo must agree to run at least a single node. As well as, run at least one collator of the registered parachain. Polkadot GitHub Repository’s main branch will run all the validator nodes.

Rococo supports XCMP-lite, enabling a cross-parachain messaging protocol. Meaning, users can transmit messages with one another through the relay chain.

Polkadot will be releasing more upgrades for the parachain consensus soon. The team will soon finish up with developing the last of its parts. With this, Rococo will be more optimized than ever.
